BMC Recognized for Top Docs and Medical Specialties

Many BMC Physicians Are Recognized as 2011 Top Doctors in Boston.
67 BMC physicians from 29 different specialties
were recognized as "Top Docs" in the latest issue
of Boston Magazine.

Many of Boston Medical Center’s physicians and medical specialties ranked among the nation’s best in recent publications of U.S. News & World Report and Boston Magazine.

Results published in the U.S. News & World Report magazine’s annual America's Best Hospitals guide ranked Boston Medical Center No. 33 in geriatric care and No. 39 in pulmonology, according to a survey. BMC is also recognized as high performing – in the top 25 percent of hospitals across the country – in cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gynecology, nephrology and rheumatology. The rankings showcase 720 hospitals out of about 5,000 hospitals nationwide. Each is ranked among the country’s top hospitals in at least one medical specialty and/or ranked among the best hospitals in its metro area. The seven specialties reflect areas in which BMC has been ranked consistently in previous years.

In addition, the U.S. News & World Report identified 91 BMC physicians in its newly established U.S. News Top Doctors guide. Many of these doctors also rank among the top one percent in the nation in their specialty according to Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., who partnered with U.S. News & World Report to create the list.

At the regional level, Boston Magazine’s latest “Top Docs” issue recognized 67 BMC physicians as some of Boston’s best. These highly-skilled, exceptional doctors from 29 different specialties ranging from addiction psychiatry to vascular surgery were chosen by their peers with consideration given to their educational background and professional experience.

"We are pleased that Boston Medical Center continues to be recognized for its excellent medical care," says BMC President and CEO Kate Walsh. "This achievement reflects the commitment of our caregivers, researchers, staff and board members to our mission to provide exceptional care, without exception.”

Located in Boston’s historic South End neighborhood, BMC is a private, not-for-profit, 508-bed, academic medical center and the primary teaching affiliate for Boston University School of Medicine.
