Geriatrics

Education

The Geriatrics Section's faculty and programs are recognized for excellence at the national level. The section has received many grants and awards in recognition of this excellence. Students, residents and physicians of Boston University Medical Center and across the nation benefit from these programs.

Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Grant
In November 2003, the Geriatrics Section was awarded a grant from The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation to develop the BUMC Comprehensive Geriatrics Education Project. This grant focuses on improving the care of the elderly by increasing training in geriatrics in the many disciplines of medicine where our patients are seen and at all levels of training from students to practicing physicians.

John A. Hartford Foundation Grant
In 1998, the Geriatrics Section at Boston University School of Medicine became a Center of Excellence in Geriatrics (COE) funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation. The purpose of this yearlong faculty development program is to attract additional outstanding physicians to careers as geriatrically oriented faculty, whatever their disciplines.

National Institute on Aging Grant
First offered in 1986, the Summer Institute in Geriatric Medicine is a weeklong conference designed for medical students across the country who are interested in pursuing careers in academic medicine and geriatric research. This program is sponsored by the American Geriatrics Society and the Boston University School of Medicine, with funding from the National Institute on Aging (NIA).
