Education

Interns and Residents


Interns and Residents receive training and experience in Geriatric Medicine through rotations in inpatient and outpatient settings.  This education has been enhanced through the development of Evidence-based Medicine training and Chief Resident Immersion Training.

Geriatrics Rotations

Each year 13 second and third year residents and 26 interns serve for four weeks on the Geriatrics Inpatient Service, under the supervision of one of the Geriatrics Section attending physicians.  26 second and third year residents participate in a month-long outpatient geriatrics rotation during which time they see patients in the home and nursing home as well as at an affiliated PACE site.  Primary care interns also participate in a specially designed outpatient rotation which includes faculty mentorship, home visits and participation in interdisciplinary primary care.  Link to read more…

 

Evidence Based Medicine on-line tutorial

With funding from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, the section has developed an on-line tutorial to teach residents the fundamentals of Evidence-based Medicine.  Link to read more…

 

Chief Resident Immersion Training

The BUMC Comprehensive Geriatrics Education Project, funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, focuses on improving the care of the elderly by increasing training in geriatrics in the many disciplines of medicine where our patients are seen and at all levels of training from students to practicing physicians.  One of the highlights of this grant is the Chief Resident Immersion Training (CRIT).  Link to read more…
