Services
Thyroid
Our thyroid specialists are trained and certified to perform thyroid biopsies, including those that are ultrasound guided. These procedures are performed in the clinic for our patients which allows for maximum efficiency in the diagnosis, treatment and management of thyroid disease, including thyroid cancer.
Administration of radioactive iodine therapy is available for our hyperthyroid and thyroid cancer patients and is performed by our credentialed Endocrinologists in collaboration with the Nuclear Medicine Department.
Bone
In our bone clinic, directed by Michael Holick, M.D., a leading expert in the field of bone metabolism and vitamin D, we emphasize the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis along with other metabolic bone disorders.
We have state of the art bone densitometry equipment for dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA scan) which uses very low dose x-ray and gives us instant access to a patient’s osteostatus.
Many patients are referred to us within BMC as well as from outside BMC for bone density only.
For added convenience, bone density is also available in the Moakley building’s radiology department. These scans are interpreted by an endocrinologist.
Adrenal
Adrenal vein catheterizations can be done as part of the work up for the evaluation of primary aldosteronism. These are done under the direction of an endocrinologist and are performed at Boston Medical Center’s Interventional Radiology department by skilled radiologists.
*On site thyroid biopsy as well as bone densitometry and phlebotomy lab provide added convenience and less stress for our patients.
Other Sites
For the convenience of East Boston Neighborhood Health Center patients, endocrine services are also provided at the East Boston site.
