March 2008 - A warm welcome to Rachel Richards, PNP, as she joins the BirthPlace PNP service. March 2008 - Julie Mottl-Santiago, Director of the Birth Sister Program, announces that the Birth Sister breastfeeding peer counselor program is up and running. The peers offer culturally-competent counseling to mothers who need extra social support to breastfeed successfully via individual consultations, group information sessions, and home visits after discharge. Birth Sister breastfeeding peers include Luz Lopez, Daisy Boada and Guadalupe Lopez. September 2007 - "Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center announce a strict new conflict-of-interest policy that places hard limits on interactions between doctors and representatives from pharmaceutical companies and medical device makers... August 2007 - The U.S. Government (CDC) releases national breastfeeding rates for babies born in 2004. Boston Medical Center's breastfeeding rate of 88% exceeded the national initiation rate of 73.8% and met the Healthy People 2010 goal of 75%. May 2007 - Boston Medical Center is awarded recertification of Baby-Friendly status by Baby-Friendly USA.
