In the process of evaluation, certain tests of blood, urine and stool, and imaging studies such as X-rays and ultrasound may be necessary for diagnosis. In addition, a number of specialized tests are available through the Pediatric Gastroenterology service.
Diagnostic procedures:
- Lactose breath hydrogen test
- D-Xylose absorption test
- Endoscopy and biopsy of the esophagus, stomach, and first portion of the small intestine
- Endoscopy and biopsy of the colon
- Liver biopsy
- Rectal biopsy
- Esophageal pH probe study
- Rectal manometry
- Esophageal manometry
Ancillary tests:
- Radiology series, CAT scan, MRI, fluoroscopy
- Nuclear medicine: gastric emptying scans, gallbladder emptying scans, esophageal motility, salivograms
- Laboratory medicine
