In the process of evaluation, certain tests of blood, urine and stool, and imaging studies such as X-rays and ultrasound may be necessary for diagnosis. In addition, a number of specialized tests are available through the Pediatric Gastroenterology service.

Diagnostic procedures:

  • Lactose breath hydrogen test 

  • D-Xylose absorption test 

  • Endoscopy and biopsy of the esophagus, stomach, and first portion of the small intestine

  • Endoscopy and biopsy of the colon

  • Liver biopsy 

  • Rectal biopsy 

  • Esophageal pH probe study 

  • Rectal manometry 

  • Esophageal manometry
    Ancillary tests:

  • Radiology series, CAT scan, MRI, fluoroscopy

  • Nuclear medicine: gastric emptying scans, gallbladder emptying scans, esophageal motility, salivograms

  • Laboratory medicine

  • Infusion Center
