Why did you go into trauma/acute care surgery? I chose trauma and acute care surgery, because I enjoy the challenge, the complexity, and the breadth of medical issues that I encounter. The field provides me with the opportunity to surgically care for patients with the traumatic injuries, such as multiple gunshot wounds, as well as those patients with other severe medical conditions and intensive critical care. What makes Boston Medical Center special? The patients. The majority of our patients are hard working people from the community who now require operative intervention. They are appreciative of the work that we do for them, and it is my honor to care for them. Additionally, given our diverse patient population, I have the opportunity to care for patients from around the world with complex and rare medical conditions. Research/Clinical Interests

Eric Mahoney, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine, is a graduate of Boston College, Boston, MA and Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Mahoney completed his residency and fellowship at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. His clinical interests include disaster preparedness and systems development.
