How To Become a Volunteer

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Boston Medical Center. We consider all applications from persons interested in being part of Boston Medical Center Volunteer Services. In order to be considered for placement, you need to make a commitment of 50 hours minimum and complete the following process:

  1) Complete a BMC Volunteer Application and provide three (3) written letters of reference (e-mail references are accepted at volunteer.services@bmc.org). We will not accept references from relatives. If you are under the age of 18, you will need your parents or guardians to sign Parental Permission Forms.

 2) Send us your current immunization records. Attach them to the enclosed “Immunization Form for Boston Medical Center Volunteers” or have your medical provider update your immunizations and record them on the form. Include documentation of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) immunizations, and your most recent TB test, if available. If you need MMR immunizations or TB testing the Medical Center will provide these at no cost.

 3) Have an interview with a staff member of the Volunteer Services Department and take part in a hospital orientation program.

Once you have completed all of the above requirements you will be considered for placement as a volunteer in one of our programs or individual placements as opportunities permit.

Please mail your completed application package to: Volunteer Services Department, 850 Harrison Avenue, ACC 4S-18, Boston, MA 02118-2393, or bring it to our office on the fourth floor of the Ambulatory Care Building, 850 Harrison Avenue. Should you have any questions or need additional information please call us at (617) 414-5122.

Again, thank you for your interest in being part of our programs. We look forward to hearing from you and receiving your materials.

Sincerely,

Maria Tetzaguic
Administrative Assistant
Volunteer Services Department
