A torn meniscus is a common knee injury. Meniscus repair is a procedure that treats this type of injury, by either repairing or removing the damaged part of the meniscus. Whether the surgeon repairs or removes the damaged meniscus depends on how severe the tear is.

Surgeons can also replace a torn meniscus, but this is a less common procedure.

Meniscus repair can help make your knee more stable, reduce or eliminate pain, and help you get back to regular activities.

After surgery, you'll need to stay off your leg for a little while. Your doctor will probably give you crutches to help. Once you can go back to some physical activity, usually a few weeks, you'll need to start physical therapy.

Healing from a meniscus repair can take a few weeks to a few months, depending on whether the meniscus was repaired or replaced. A repair usually takes longer to heal.
