A neuropsychological evaluation tests many mental functions to help doctors figure out how well your brain is working. Specifically, it helps them figure out how well your brain is working is linked to your behavior, mood, and thinking. This can be used to diagnose certain conditions or help your doctor understand how a neurological injury like a stroke has affected you.

A neuropsychological evaluation may look at your:

  • Reading and reading comprehension
  • Ability to understand others
  • General intellect
  • Attention
  • Concentration
  • Memory
  • Processing speed (how long it takes you to understand and respond to information)
  • Learning
  • Time management
  • Ability to solve problems
  • Self-control
  • Motor skills
  • Mood
