Surgical dislocation is a technique used to help surgeons find the cause of and correct conditions that cause hip pain. It helps your surgeon get a better view of your full hip, so they can more accurately understand the issue.

During surgical dislocation, your surgeon will move the head of the femur out of its normal position. This does not injure the surrounding muscles or stop blood supply, unlike a dislocated hip from trauma.
