A key aspect of BMC’s research mission is the study of diseases that disproportionally impact our patients, while also ensuring inclusion of our diverse patient population in our research studies. For example, we are national leaders in research related to substance use disorders, providing a patient-centered approach to studying key problems that are important to our patients to improve their overall outcomes.

New Small Molecule Could Treat Sickle Cell Disease in Adults that Don’t Respond to Hydroxyurea

Researchers at Boston Medical Center found the molecule increases fetal hemoglobin production in human blood stem cells and leads to fewer sickled red blood cells in mice.
