Premature ejaculation is a condition in which you ejaculate sooner than wanted. As many as one in three men experience premature ejaculation at some point, and it's usually not a cause for concern if it doesn't happen often. However, if you always or almost always ejaculate within three minutes of penetration, are not able to delay ejaculation during sex, or avoid sexual activity because of premature ejaculation, your doctor may recommend treatment.

Causes of premature ejaculation may be psychological (like depression or guilt) or biological (like hormone issues).

Treatment may include:

  • Talk therapy
  • Behavioral techniques like masturbating before sex
  • Pelvic floor exercises
  • Topical numbing agents
  • Antidepressants
  • Erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra
