We know that financial stress in the family can have a negative effect on a child’s health. Financial coaching, free tax preparation, and access to economic services help reduce financial stress, which can then improve a child’s health. We want our patients to stay as healthy as possible, so we’ll work to get you the financial benefits you deserve.

StreetCred Services

Financial Coaching

Currently, we are offering in-person financial coaching. Financial coaching can help families meet their goals, such as:

  • Developing and sticking to a budget
  • Opening a bank account
  • Building your credit
  • Saving for a car or a home

Economic Bundle

Families with infants in the Pediatric Clinic at BMC can get help accessing a variety of resources to improve their finances.

These services are offered to all families at their newborn visits, and financial community wellness advocates (CWAs) will continue to work with families during well-child check-ups — and between visits — to access this bundle.

Our economic bundle includes:

  • WIC
  • SNAP
  • BMC's Preventative Food Pantry
  • 529 College Savings Account (529 CSA)
  • Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML)
  • Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)

Tax Preparation

Our free services are for families with children who are patients of the BMC Pediatric Clinic and who make approximately $60,000 or less.

We specialize in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which can help you get back money based on your income and how many children you have, up to a maximum of about $6,600. We can also help you file for the Child Tax Credit, which can be claimed for each qualifying child under 17 years old who has a Social Security number.

Getting an ITIN to File Taxes

If you are undocumented but have kids who are U.S. citizen, you can apply for an ITIN number that allows you to file tax returns and request significant credits for your kids. StreetCred can help you connect with Greater Boston Legal Services to decide whether this is the right step for you and your family, and to apply for an ITIN should you choose to do so. You can also contact us at 617.414.5170 or email info@mystreetcred.org.
