Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Boston Medical Center and Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where we aspire to transform emergency care and make an impact on every patient that walks through our door.

Guided by our vision, we aim to partner with our community to deliver exceptional, accessible, and equitable emergency care while eliminating preventable injury and disease.

We are driven by our mission. The Boston Medical Center Emergency Department provides compassionate, culturally humble, high-quality acute care to our patients, while addressing the bio-psychosocial needs of our diverse population, training the leaders of tomorrow, and advancing health outcomes in our community through scholarship and advocacy.

Our clinical team of emergency physicians, led by our board certified faculty, provide high-quality and safe emergency care to all. We care for 130,000 patient visits per year, making us one of the 10 busiest emergency departments in the country and busiest trauma center in the region.

We are committed to training the future generation of leaders in emergency medicine through our residency and fellowship programs. Our four-year, nationally renowned residency program was the first in New England. Our training programs include fellowships in EMS, ultrasound, global health, and health equity.

Our department is focused on advancing the science and understanding of emergency care, population health, and the determinants of health through an urban health framework. Our faculty are leading research on clinical operations, COVID, HIV, violence prevention/intervention, addiction medicine, medical education, and global health.

We are deeply committed to community engagement and service locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our department participates in and has leaders in several professional organizations including the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM) and American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). We also partner with several community organizations who provide wrap-around services for our patients.

As the Chief and Chair, I am honored and privileged to lead the department towards our vision.  Our dedicated faculty, fellows, trainees, and staff support our mission every day. We are proud to say that at BMC, we deliver exceptional care without exception.
