Emergency departments play a vital role in our communities. Emergency medicine teams are on the front lines, helping often some of the most individuals and familes in the country with their clinical and social needs. As the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted, EDs also meet global and local public health challenges that are effecting so many in our communities.
Boston Medical Center is convening seasoned emergency medicine leaders and renowned speakers from across the country for its second annual Strengthening Essential Emergency Departments (SEED) conference.
The theme for this year's conference is "The Intersection of Value-Based Care, Population Health, and Essential EDs." The forward-thinking conference will focus on innovations that will build healthier, thriving communities, often at the intersection of value-based care and essential EDs.
For outcomes, we aim to build ambitious but achievable solutions, actions, advocacy, and engagement, helping us to model essential EDs that support the overall health and wellbeing of our community members, particularly the most vulnerable. Leaders attending this conference will share ideas and innovations that have helped them meet the moment of intersecting crises and challenges, share sets of best practices, and set a course toward a thriving future.

Congresswoman Lori Trahan
Congresswoman Lori Trahan proudly represents Massachusetts’ Third Congressional District, made up of 35 cities and towns including her hometown of Lowell. She was first introduced to public service as a college student in Washington, D.C. After college, she joined former Congressman Marty Meehan’s staff, working her way up to Chief of Staff. She deeply enjoyed working to serve people across Massachusetts, but she also witnessed firsthand the increasing partisanship that served wealthy special interests instead of families like the one she grew up in.
Lori decided to run for Congress in 2018 because she wanted to expand economic opportunities for working families in Massachusetts. Now, as a member of the powerful House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Lori is an advocate for Third District residents – working to expand access to affordable, quality health care, end the addiction crisis, rebuild our infrastructure, tackle climate change, protect kids online, and more.
