Welcome to the Boston Medical Center Obesity Medicine Clinic, where we work to combat obesity and improve lives. At our clinic, we believe that your journey to better health should be enjoyable, fulfilling, and supported every step of the way.

Below, you can learn more about our obesity medicine clinic, our services, and our dedicated healthcare professionals.

What is obesity?

Obesity is a complex, chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide. It’s important to understand that obesity requires long-term management.

At our clinic, healthcare professionals are committed to providing ongoing support and care.

What is the BMC Obesity Medicine Clinic?

Managing obesity takes a comprehensive approach. That's where an obesity medicine clinic comes in.

An important part of the obesity medicine clinic is our multidisciplinary team. Our team includes experts such as registered dietitians, physicians, nurse practitioners, and social worker. These professionals all work together to give you the best care possible.

We’ll assess your overall health and any underlying medical conditions using state-of-the-art tools and tests. Your care team will then work together to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your unique needs.

We can also refer you to local community programs that can support our work. It's all about empowering you to succeed, both in our clinic and beyond.

How can I make lifestyle changes to manage obesity?

Changes to your lifestyle are a very important part of managing obesity. For example, you’ll work closely with dietitians to create nutrition plans that work for your life and needs.

We also offer nutrition support beyond the ordinary. At our Teaching Kitchen, you’ll receive expert guidance and hands-on experience to improve your culinary skills.

Is weight loss surgery right for me?

In some cases, weight loss surgery may be an option. Weight loss surgery may right for you if you have:

  • A body mass index (BMI) of 35 or above and a condition such as obstructive sleep apnea, diabetes, or hypertension
  • A body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above

Our skilled surgical team performs a range of procedures that can help you lose significant weight and improve your health.

Can medications help manage obesity?

Medications can be helpful for managing your weight. They can help you control your appetite and support your long-term health goals.

Not all insurance companies cover weight loss medications. This may affect the options you have for treatments. Our team will work with you to explore all possible treatments and find the best solution for you.

How do I choose the right treatment for my needs?

We take your wellbeing seriously at our clinic. Our goal is to find the safest, most effective ways for you to manage your weight.

When figuring out what treatments are right for you, we consider important factors like:

  • Your body mass index (BMI)
  • Any other medical conditions you have, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or obstructive sleep apnea
  • What treatments you’ve already tried
  • Your lifestyle and cultural needs

If obesity is impacting your life, the BMC Obesity Medicine Clinic is here for you and will be for your whole weight management journey.
