Baby Steps in the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center provides developmental evaluations and nutritional assessments of former premature infants or term infants with complicated newborn courses.

Baby Steps is a multidisciplinary clinic staffed by a developmental and behavioral pediatrician, occupational therapists and two dietitians. In addition, we have a family outreach advocate who links families to community-based services and resources.

Baby Steps works collaboratively with Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Gastroenterology for the management of complex patients.

Clinical Assessment and Ongoing Clinical Care

Evaluations and recommendations for appropriate developmental services (i.e. early intervention), nutritional recommendations and medical management are provided. For babies who are struggling with diet and/or adequate weight gain, our dietitian makes home visits to observe a child during a feed, provide feeding plans and offer additional recommendations. Our clinic can also schedule a feeding assessment for babies with particular feeding difficulties.

After the initial evaluation, ongoing follow-up is scheduled as needed, based on the needs of the child and family.

Clinic Phone: 617.414.4841, Press Option 1, then 2.
