PrEP and PEP
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) are medical regimens individuals may take to help prevent HIV. These are available by prescription only.
- PrEP is used for individuals who may be at an elevated risk for HIV based on their lifestyle
- PEP is used for individuals who have been potentially exposed to HIV within the past 72 hours
If you are interested in either of these interventions, please contact the clinic or refer your patient to schedule an appointment.
Treatments
Direct access to antiretroviral therapy (DAART) is a clinical program offered through the BMC Department of Infectious Diseases that links patients to HIV care immediately after a positive HIV diagnosis, rather than waiting for a follow-up visit.
