Cystocele, or prolapsed (fallen) bladder, occurs when the ligaments and muscles that hold a woman’s bladder (where urine is stored) in place weaken, allowing the bladder to drop, either putting pressure on or dropping in or out of the vagina. Causes range from a drop in estrogen that comes with aging to illness and obesity, and symptoms range from frequent bathroom trips to serious pain. There are both lifestyle and medical treatments to ease problems and symptoms.
