Ingredients

Turkey - 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean) ground beef, ground chicken, or ground meat alternative (such as Beyond Meat) Bread-crumb - ½ cup plain bread crumbs, or quick rolled oats Onion - ¼ cup, minced Cheese - 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese (optional) Egg - 1 large Basil - 1 teaspoon dried basil or 2 Tablespoons chopped fresh basil Milk - 2 Tablespoons Garlic - 1 teaspoon minced garlic or ½ teaspoon garlic powder Salt - ¼ teaspoon Pepper - ¼ teaspoon Marinara - 4 cups marinara sauce (see our recipe in the notes section)

Instructions

Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2
To make the meatballs, put ¼ cup of oats (if using) into a blender and blend to a flour like consistency. Add to a large mixing bowl. If using bread crumbs, add those to a large bowl.
Step 3
Crack an egg by tapping the egg on a flat surface and pulling the shell apart with your thumbs, letting the egg fall into the bowl.
Step 4
Add onion, basil, salt, pepper, milk, garlic and cheese (if using) to the bowl. Add the ground turkey (or other protein) to the bowl and mix with your hands by pinching the ingredients into the ground turkey to make sure everything is mixed evenly. Wash your hands.
Step 5
Shape onto balls (about 2 Tablespoons each). Place on greased baking sheet. Bake for 15 minutes, until cooked through.
