These burgers are pan seared rather than deep fried, but they still have the crunchy appeal of fried chicken (without the batter). The panko breadcrumbs provide the crunchiness akin to fried chicken, but without the batter used in true fried chicken. The oils we recommend using in this recipe (see ingredients) are those with a high smoke point, so they are safe and healthy even when cooked at a high temperature.

Ingredients

Garlic - 2 cloves Ground_chicken - 1 lb Panko - ½ cup panko bread crumbs (divided) Egg - 1 large Hot_sauce - 1 Tablespoon (sriracha, Franks, etc.) Oil - 1 Tablespoon avocado, sesame, canola, peanut or light olive oil Lemon - 1 large, juiced Yogurt - ½ cup plain, low-fat Greek yogurt Hot_sauce - 2-3 teaspoons

Instructions

Step 1
Mince the garlic.
Step 2
Add the garlic, ground chicken, ¼ cup panko, egg, and hot sauce into a bowl and mix with your hands until combined.
Step 3
Spread remaining ¼ cup bread crumbs into a shallow dish. Divide the chicken mixture into 4 equal parts, form into patties and coat in the bread crumbs.
Step 4
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 5-6 minutes on each side, until deep brown in color.
Step 5
Sauce: While the patties cook, make the sauce. Juice the lemon into a bowl and add the yogurt and hot sauce, mixing until well combined.
Step 6
Serve patty topped with sauce.

Notes

Chicken burgers have fewer calories than traditional beef burgers. You can cook these in a frying pan, in the oven, or on the grill. Pairing this burger with a salad and fruit makes for a well balanced meal!
