In 2018, BMC completed our clinical campus redesign project, which unified many of our clinical services to one campus in order to better serve our patients. Now, as our health system continues to expand and serve even more patients and members of the community, we are excited to grow our physical space and update several of our facilities.

To address this demand, we launched part two of our clinical campus redesign, which will impact both our inpatient and outpatient services. We began by focusing on our outpatient clinics in mid-2022 and started construction of expanded inpatient services in 2023. Now in fall 2024, we are launching the final phase of our campus redesign.

What's Next

When you come to Boston Medical Center beginning in early fall 2024, you’ll notice some big changes on the campus!

At the end of this project, BMC will have a new, modern lobby with more seating, improved patient drop-off and valet areas, a redesigned handicapped parking lot, and better access from Mass Ave.

To make these exciting improvements, we will be closing the Menino Building lobby entrance for approximately one year, beginning early fall. This is in addition to the ongoing closure of the Yawkey Building entrance.

If you are coming for care or as a visitor in the Menino (840 Harrison Ave), Yawkey (850 Harrison Ave), or Moakley (830 Harrison Ave) buildings, you will enter the hospital through the Moakley Building until construction is finished. Staff members in the Moakley lobby will be there to help you get to your appointment in other buildings.

The entrance to the Emergency Department will stay in its current location on Albany St.

Please make sure to leave extra time to get to your appointment while the Menino and Yawkey entrances are closed. We appreciate your patience as we improve our facilities, and look forward to welcoming you to BMC before, during, and after construction.

Our Future Campus

In total, the new projects will add:

  • New and improved outpatient clinics for Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and Adult Psychiatry
  • Expanded services in Crosstown Building located at 801 Mass Ave. to better serve our patients using the clinics inside the building. New spaces will include a retail pharmacy, an outpatient imaging suite with diagnostic x-ray and mammography machines, and a blood draw suite - Completed
  • Med/surg and critical care inpatient bed suites in the Yawkey Building - Completed
  • Additional operating rooms in the Menino Building
  • A new, modern Menino lobby, including an expansion of the cafeteria seating area, improved patient drop-off and valet areas, improved access from Mass Ave to the Yawkey, Menino, and Moakley Building entrances, wider drop-off roadways, and a reconfigured handicapped parking lot

Projected Timeline

Construction on our outpatient spaces began in mid-2022. Overall, construction will be finished by the end of 2025.
