Campus Construction Update

Starting September 14, we’re closing the Menino building lobby entrance. This, along with the ongoing Yawkey building entrance closure, will help us bring you an even better campus experience that matches the exceptional care you've come to expect. Please enter the Menino and Yawkey buildings through the Moakley building, and make sure to leave extra time to get to your appointment. Thank you for your patience.

Pediatric patients, parents and providers may seek our Child Life Specialists for support during numerous medical experiences. Examples of child life interventions include:

  • Preparing a child & family for admission, surgery, specific tests or procedures
  • Supporting effective coping and effective pain management during a child’s medical procedure(s)
  • Providing information about a new diagnosis tailored to a child’s developmental age/level
  • Developing behavior modification programs to encourage success with a new medical regimen
  • Modeling therapeutic strategies for managing chronic Illness
  • Offering psychosocial support for children and families affected by trauma
  • Providing bereavement support for the children of adult patients

Additionally, our Child Life Specialists facilitate a wide variety of external programs and services to benefit patients and families at BMC, including:

  • Reach Out and Read Programming
  • The Hospital Outreach Program from Hole in the Wall Game Camp
  • Pieces of Home – The Backpack Project
  • Boredom Busters
  • Donor Coordination
  • Holiday toy donation and distribution
  • Volunteer Opportunities

Patient Information

Child Life Specialists provide full-time coverage to Ambulatory Pediatrics, Inpatient Pediatrics/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Otolaryngology and the Pediatric Emergency Department.
