Pediatric patients, parents and providers may seek our Child Life Specialists for support during numerous medical experiences. Examples of child life interventions include:
- Preparing a child & family for admission, surgery, specific tests or procedures
- Supporting effective coping and effective pain management during a child’s medical procedure(s)
- Providing information about a new diagnosis tailored to a child’s developmental age/level
- Developing behavior modification programs to encourage success with a new medical regimen
- Modeling therapeutic strategies for managing chronic Illness
- Offering psychosocial support for children and families affected by trauma
- Providing bereavement support for the children of adult patients

Child Life Specialists provide full-time coverage to Ambulatory Pediatrics, Inpatient Pediatrics/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Otolaryngology and the Pediatric Emergency Department.
