What is the Solomont Center?

The Solomont Center is a multi-disciplinary learning center. We provide experiential training for nurse competencies and resident procedural technique as well as complex patient care scenarios across all specialties. More importantly, we are here to promote better cooperation and communication between every employee at BMC. We especially encourage programs that foster exceptional communication between health care providers. We hope to reduce unexpected errors in patient care, and make our patients the safest in the country.

Where is the center located? / directions to the Center

Moakley Building, Lower Level

The Solomont Simulation Center is in the Moakley building’s lower level. Please note the Center can only be accessed from the back of the Moakley building.

The Solomont Simulation Center has its own entrance on the backside of the Moakley building. To access the center:

  • Walk to the back side of the Moakley building. The entrance is near the corner of East Concord Street and Shapiro Drive.
  • Turn right onto Shapiro Drive from East Concord Street. The door to Solomont Simulation Center will be on the right.
  • Press the doorbell/ airphone and wait for the lock to release.
  • Once inside the building, walk down the stairs or take the elevator to the lower level and turn right through the door. 

Who can use the center?

Your information will be reviewed promptly, and the center will provide you with the resources to create the best program possible for your goals and objectives. We are here to help. How can I learn to use the equipment so I can run a course?

We have developed a “Train the Trainers” program which includes a presentation as well as hands-on training. Please contact the center for more information. Melissa.Molettieri@bmc.org

Is there a charge to use the Solomont Center?

No, there is no charge. Yes, you read that correctly. Your department does not have to pay additional fees to use the center. BMC expects all of us to work together in the center to improve patient care and communication between us to deliver exceptional care without errors. No exceptions!

Who pays for consumable products?

Consumables are covered by the simulation center budget. Requests for field-specific equipment may be made by contacting the center: Melissa.Molettieri@bmc.org, and those requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

Are there rules for using the center?

Please read the policies and procedures for specific guidelines for the center. The Solomont Center offers training modules for anyone interested in producing a program at the center. We can help you through the entire process, from formulating teaching objectives, to using the equipment, and creating meaningful debriefing sessions for your learners.
