Welcome to the PainFree Pediatrics Program!
PainFree Pediatrics is a program within the Department of Pediatrics whose purpose is to minimize the pain and discomfort associated with the care of pediatric patients at Boston Medical Center. PainFree Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary working group. Members come from all areas of the hospital which serve children.
Our goals will be accomplished by:
- Making pain management a fundamental component of pediatric care
- Providing education and training in pain management to patients, families, the lay public, department and hospital staff, and the medical community
- Implementing specific pain management guidelines using state-of-the-art techniques both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic
- Establishing a leadership role in research towards more effective pain management
Services Provided:
- Consultation to practitioners in managing painful procedures
- Developing guidelines for managing painful procedures
- Educational programming for staff at BMC and the neighborhood health centers
- Written materials for providers, children and families
- Quality Improvement to ensure optimal pain management
