Musculoskeletal Medicine and Pain Management
Conditions We Treat
We treat all types of musculoskeletal pain, which is pain in your muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, or tendons.
Acetabulum Fractures
An acetabular fracture is a break in the socket portion of the "ball-and-socket" hip joint. Acetabular fractures are not common — they occur much less frequently than fractures of the upper femur or femoral head (the "ball" portion of the joint).

Cartilage injuries are common types of joint injuries, and occur most often in the knee. They can be caused by sports, falls, or general wear and tear.

Your knee is a complex joint with many components, making it vulnerable to a variety of injuries. Some of the most common knee injuries include fractures, dislocations, sprains, and ligament tears.

Femoracetabular Impingement
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a condition in which extra bone grows along one or both of the bones that form the hip joint — giving the bones an irregular shape. Because they do not fit together perfectly, the bones rub against each other during movement.

A common source of back or neck pain is a herniated disc. Sometimes called a "slipped" or "ruptured" disc, this condition most often occurs in the lower back, as well as the smaller discs in the neck.

Also called "wear-and-tear" arthritis, osteoarthritis is a very common condition. Usually, people develop it in middle age or older. It develops gradually and worsens over time. It can occur in any joint in the body, but most often develops in weight-bearing joints, such as the hip.

Hip Dysplasia
The hip is a "ball-and-socket" joint. In a normal hip, the ball at the upper end of the femur (thighbone) fits firmly into the socket, which is a curved portion of the pelvis called the acetabulum. In a young person with hip dysplasia, the hip joint has not developed normally—the acetabulum is too shallow to adequately support and cover the head of the femur.

The knee is the largest and strongest joint in the body. It is made up of the lower end of the femur (thighbone), the upper end of the tibia (shinbone), and the patella (kneecap).

Low back pain is a common medical diagnosis estimated to affect 60-70 percent of the population in their lifetime. Low back pain can be brief, can last a short period from a few days to weeks, and can also evolve into a chronic condition with persistent symptoms lasting greater than 12 weeks.
Go to Detail PageOsteoarthritis Of The Shoulder
Osteoarthritis, or "wear and tear" arthritis, is a common degenerative disease that can affect any joint in the body, causing inflammation with pain and stiffness. As the body ages, osteoarthritis is quite common; it usually effects people over age 50. There are two joints in the shoulder that can be affected – one where the upper arm bone (humerus) fits into the rounded socket in the shoulder blade (scapula); the other where the collarbone (clavicle) meets the shoulder blade; both can lose the cartilage that protects the bone, causing the bones to rub together.
Go to Detail PageOsteonecrosis of the Hip
In osteonecrosis, the bone in the head of the femur slowly dies. Osteonecrosis of the hip is a painful condition that occurs when the blood supply to the head of the femur (thighbone) is disrupted. Because bone cells need a steady supply of blood to stay healthy, osteonecrosis can ultimately lead to destruction of the hip joint and severe arthritis.
Go to Detail PageShoulder Impingement
Shoulder impingement happens when the bones in your shoulder pinch your rotator cuff when you move your arm. It's a common cause of shoulder pain.
Go to Detail PageShoulder Instability
Shoulder instability occurs when the head of the upper arm bone is forced out of the shoulder socket. This can happen as a result of a sudden injury or from overuse. Once a shoulder has dislocated, it is vulnerable to repeat episodes. When the shoulder is loose and slips out of place repeatedly, it is called chronic shoulder instability.

Spinal arthritis is a type of inflammation of the joints in the spine. It can occur anywhere along the spine, but is most common in the lower back and neck.

Spondylolisthesis
In spondylolisthesis, one of the bones in your spine — called a vertebra — slips forward and out of place. This may occur anywhere along the spine, but is most common in the lower back (lumbar spine). In some people, this causes no symptoms at all. Others may have back and leg pain that ranges from mild to severe.
