Sobre

Tracey A. Dechert, MD, is Chief of Acute Care and Trauma Surgery at Boston Medical Center (BMC). She is also an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Appointed Chief in 2022, Dr. Dechert is believed to be the first woman to be named Surgical Trauma Chief at a Level 1 adult trauma center in Massachusetts. Her research interests focus on trauma in women, injury prevention, social determinants of health in surgical patients, and surgical education. In 2014, Dr. Dechert’s passions and interests led her to co-found the Socially Responsible Surgery (SRS) group at BMC/Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine to establish social responsibility as a core value of surgical practice. This includes equal access to surgical care, eliminating healthcare disparities, increasing patient advocacy, and educating and serving the local and global community. SRS empowers medical students, residents, and faculty to combine their interest in surgery with their commitment to serving the underserved. Since its founding, SRS has expanded to include chapters at institutions across the country.
