Overview

In 2010, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Institute of Medicine jointly released the Future of Nursing:  Leading Change, Advancing Health, calling for increasing the percentage of nurses holding bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree or higher to 80%. A 10% increase in the proportion of BSN prepared nurses decreases the risk of patient death by 5%. BMC is committed to assisting employees furthering their nursing education. We offer assistance in multiple ways including discounted tuition, partnerships, scholarships, tuition reimbursement and a limited voucher exchange program.

Professional Certification

Professional certification validates nurses’ knowledge and skills, improves quality and safety, and provides patients a benchmark to measure the level of care they can expect at BMC. Nurses can apply for reimbursement of fees related to obtaining their certification exams. Certified nurses at BMC receive an annual bonus of $200 and are recognized on National Certified Nurses Day.
