When should I reach out to the Data and Methods Core?

We recommend reaching out to the Data and Methods Core as early as possible in the project’s timeline. While the data analysis portions of a project cannot usually be completed until all data has been collected, the Data and Methods Core team can still work with the project team to ensure the data is precise, clean, and effectively supports your project’s aims. This can include tasks such as supporting development of a grant proposal analysis plan, supporting the submission of a CDW-R request, refining data collection instruments, and more.

Do you provide research assistant and/or project management support?

No, the Data and Methods Core does not provide research assistant and/or project management support at this time.

Will your team assist in submitting CDW-R requests?

YES! While we cannot submit a request on your behalf, we are happy to engage in the process. We are in frequent collaboration with the CDW-R team, and our team can assist in ensuring your request is as clear and concise as possible. Collaborating with our team can streamline your dataset when these data are requested, as we can ensure your list of variables gets to precisely what you aim to measure.

Will your team create and submit an IRB proposal for our project?

No. The Data and Methods Core team can help to inform key aspects of a project’s IRB proposal submission, but we do not submit on behalf of a project team.

Does the research team need to do anything with data prior to the Data and Methods Core involvement?

YES, we recommend your team provide as much cleaning and management as is possible based on your team’s availability and knowledge. Data cleaning and management tasks require significant subject matter expertise in the area of study. The Data and Methods Core team are experts in data analysis but do not have specific knowledge about your research questions or subject matter. If specific tasks fall outside of your team’s expertise, we can provide support, but this will lengthen the timeline of a project depending on the need.
